Best Star Advertisements of 2008

Though the idiot box leaves
us seldom satisfied, sixty seconds of gratification follow in the form
of commercials. They're challenging, imaginative and mostly
chuckle-worthy. And lately, they feature quite a few actors too.

Here are 2008's Top Five Bollywood-themed commercials starring a Khan, a Kapoor and a Kumar:

Aamir Khan and Gul Panag, Tata Sky

Learning the merits
of satellite television was never more fun. The endearing,
oh-so-familiar camaraderie between reel-life husband-wife duo, Aamir
Khan and Gul Panag is at once engaging.

Both share a sparkling chemistry and it'll be interesting to watch them interact a little longer than one minute.

R Madhavan and Vidya Balan, Airtel

We witnessed a sublime magic between Maddy and Vids in Mani Ratnam's Guru.
The
Airtel advertisement takes it a bit further while promoting its
talk-time advantages through the couple's mushy but believable saga of
sweet-nothings.

Shah Rukh Khan, Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone, Pepsi

A geeky
SRK mugging up his gyaan on extra terrestrial. An untidy Ranbir
Kapoor's spur of the moment invention Youngistaan. And the demure lady
caught between it all, Deepika Padukone.

All for a bottle of Pepsi. It's a lavish, nicely-timed challenge, but fizzy enough to click.

Fascinating, especially, after all the hyped rivalry between the Om Shanti Om and Saawariya camps, which were released on the same day?

Priyanka Chopra, Nokia 7610 Supernova

Forget Fashion and Dostana, the actress looks super duper gorgeous in this sleekly-directed, non-Bollywoodesque commercial.

It's
loaded with glossy attitude, girl power, chic style, hip images and a
breezy voice-over of the diva herself. That's Ms Chopra, making a
statement and connection, all in a day's work.

Akshay Kumar, Thums Up

Want to
experience the drive of your life? Ping Akshay Kumar. The stunt-phile
goes wild behind the wheels in pursuit of his favourite beverage in
this fast-paced, action-packed commercial.

Best part? The one where he delivers a demented shriek. Super!
